I work with complete respect and confidentially with diverse groups at an individual level and with couples. I have worked with NHS clients in London and Bright Light in Edinburgh. Today, as well as running Yew Tree Counselling, I work with Relationship Scotland providing Relationship and Psychosexual Therapy.
I work within the BACP and COSRT Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I believe that all people are different and not one therapeutic approach will benefit all. Gem Thomson (Associate)
BABCP Accredited CBT Therapist, EMDR Therapist, RMN, Clinical Hypnotist and Schema Therapist
I have over 12 years’ experience in NHS and independent work and I’m comfortable working with complexity. My aim is always to know the individual and fit the therapy to the person and unltimately meet your needs in therapy.
I will be able to help you understand things about your ways of coping and existing in the world and get a clearer picture of yourself. Together we can find which ones are helpful to you and which are less so.
I am a schema focused psychotherapist. This means that I look for ways unconscious processes are affecting your life. This often shows up as patterns in relation to self and others. Specifically feeling low self-worth or chaotic. This is a model that looks at ‘parts of self’ so is very accepting.
My therapeutic foundational approach is CBT. I am a BABCP accredited CBT Therapist. This is a shorter term, evidence-based approach which tends to be solutions focused. This is excellent for mood management. With CBT we use models and systems to increase confidence, feel happier and solve problems.
I am also an EMDR therapist, this is an approach to trauma processing that uses the client’s internal processes to heal.
There are many different psychotherapeutic models and potentially the most important part is whether you fit with your therapist. I’m happy to give a free 15 minutes to talk to you so you can decide.
Session Fee: £95.00

Heather Tosh (Associate)
PGDip. Psychodynamic Counselling, COSCA & PVG Registered
Difficult experiences can leave traces — in our bodies, our relationships, and the ways we respond to the world. You might notice sudden anger, feeling shut down or on edge, struggling to trust, or thinking you’re “too sensitive.” These responses make complete sense given what you’ve been through.
My work is grounded in the understanding that early relationships and past experiences continue to shape how we feel and behave in the present — often outside of our awareness. Together, we can explore these patterns gently, at a pace that feels manageable, helping you make sense of what you’re feeling and why.
Psychodynamic therapy allows us to look at how past experiences and relationships may be influencing your current thoughts, feelings and behaviours. With a trauma-informed approach, I ensure we move at a pace that feels safe and respectful of your lived experiences. This is your space, and you are always in control of what we explore and when.
As a qualified psychodynamic counsellor, I offer gentle, trauma-informed support tailored to your individual needs. I work in private practice as well as outreach within the third sector supporting survivors of childhood trauma. I am available for counselling in-person, over Zoom and by telephone.
Session fee: £55.00
