Low Cost Community Counselling Service

Yew Tree Counselling is delighted to announce that it is now providing a Low Cost Community Counselling Service for our local community. This is a donation based service that is aimed at bringing counselling services to those with a lower income. This service is provided by counsellors who are in supervised training as part of their continued training and development.

If you are feeling anxious, low or hopeless, finding it hard to cope with day-to-day life, struggling with flashbacks and nightmares, feeling stressed, worrying or have a fear of social situations or just having a difficult time at work or at home but, feel you cannot afford counselling, this might be a something for you.

Preparing for Couples Therapy

Sadly, the breakdown of a relationship is still very much prevalent in today’s society.

According to a social study carried out by the University College London (UCL) in 2021, over one in five people (22%) said they experienced a complete breakdown of a relationship either within their family, with friends, colleagues, or neighbours because of the pandemic. In the same year with regards to partner relationships, the 2021 Census recorded the following:

  • the lowest number of marriages on record since 1838.
  • a significant increase (24.3%) in the number of people who now cohabit as a couple (albeit, not in a marriage or civil partnership).
  • divorce rates for both opposite-sex and same-sex couples were at their highest since 2014.
  • and overall, around 58% of everyone over the age of 16 in the UK is in a relationship.

Haud yer wheesht….. or… could you quieten it down please…stop talking! Shut up…. Enough!!

We can all be troubled by a host of negative, critical thoughts and feelings. Some of these are the core symptoms of depression, stress, anxiety and low self-esteem.  This noisy internal rant that can sometimes consume us, can determine the sort of day, week or life we have. 

There is a correlation between our thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

There is no Shame in Mental Illness

Mental illnesses are conditions that affect our cognitive and emotional processes i.e. our thoughts, emotions and, behaviours. Mental health problems are as common as physical health problems. In fact, all of us are likely to suffer with a mental health condition at some point of our life e.g. stress or anxiety. And, its OK.

According to a 2021 healthcare study by the NHS, 1 in 4 people experience some kind of mental health problem each year in the UK. The following are the most common mental health issues in any given week:
